What is oxicodone ?

One of the most commonly effective ways to reduce the symptoms of nausea is by lying down for 1 to 2 hours with as little head movement.

Grapefruits can increase the side effects of this medication while taking oxicodone ( oxycodone ). So grapefruit or drinking grapefruits should be avoided while taking this medication unless your doctor or Pharmacist asked you to do so safely. You may also ask your Pharmacist or Doctor for more details. If you are taking this liquid form of oxycodone, then always measure the dose of this drug carefully with a measuring device or spoon. Never use a household spoon as this may not give you the accurate or correct dose.  You may also ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure how to measure the dose of this medication. 

The dosage of this medication is based on how you respond to treatment or your medical conditions. Always make sure you take the accurate dose as prescribed by your doctor and never increase your dose of oxycodone or take it more frequently, or take it for a longer time than prescribed. What Are The Side Effects Of oxicodone ? 

Generally, all opioids are always so addicting, oxicodone is also known as oxycodone it has a huge risk to cause addiction and abuse, and this can eventually lead to overdose as well as death.  It can also cause some severe or even fatal problems in breathing. For the lower risk of all these effects, it is advisable to inform your doctor about it and your doctor should definitely let you take the smallest dose of oxycodone that works perfectly. It is always recommended to take opioids for a short period of time.

There are some side effects of this drug that can be so serious, however, if you ever have or experience any of these side effects we have listed above then we strongly recommend you to inform or call your doctor immediately. Most especially symptoms like changes in heartbeat, hallucinations ( seeing things that are not real or hearing voices that aren’t real )-, fast heartbeats, difficulty breathing, rash, seizures, swelling of the tongue, face, ankles, eyes, hands, throat, lips. 

Oxycodone is a prescription drug which means that it can only be prescribed by a healthcare professional who has solid knowledge of how to use opioids for the management of any chronic pain.  

This drug is advised to be swallowed whole, it should not chew-, break, crush or dissolve. Because when the drug is chewed, broken, or dissolved it can actually release all the drugs at once and this can increase the risk of oxycodone overdose. So it is always advised to use this drug at once. 

To reduce or lessen any chance of having trouble swallowing or choking it is advisable to use or take just 1 tablet at a time if eventually, your dose is more than 1.

Interaction of drugs can actually change how your medications work or it can increase your risk for very serious side effects. There are some products that can interact with oxycodone which are mixed opioid agonists or antagonists e.g butorphanol and pentazocine. 

Increased side effects of drowsiness may occur when this medication is being taken with some other medications that can also cause drowsiness. i. Codeine: Codeine is a prodrug of morphine and it is generally known as an opiate. It is usually used to suppress coughing as well as diarrhea. This drug is found in the sap of opium poppy. Codeine can also be used to treat any mild to moderate pains. 

ii. Pholcodine: Pholcodine is generally is also known as morpholinyl ethyl morphine. It is a drug that is referred to as an opioid cough suppressant ( antitussive ). But this drug has almost no analgesic effects and it helps to suppress any unproductive coughs.  It also contains mild sedative effects. 

iii. Hydrocodone: It is also an opioid that is used for the treatment of coughs. And also when you take alcohol, and drugs that are used to induce sleep such as ; 

iv. Zolpidem: Zolpidem is a short-term treatment of sleep problems. It is being sold under the brand name Ambien. 

v. lorazepam: oxycodone can also interact with some muscle relaxant drugs such as; cyclobenzaprine and carisoprodol. It also interacts with antihistamines. Antihistamines are types of drugs that are being used to treat allergic reactions such as sneezing etc. And one of the side effects of antihistamines is that they cause drowsiness.

It is very important for people who use opioids to always check the labels of all their drugs. Because there are some drugs like cough suppressants they may cause drowsiness

Some medications such as azole antifungal such as ketoconazole could actually affect the removal of oxycodone from the body. And this may actually affect the way the drug works. Antibiotics such as erythromycin which is under macrolide class could also affect how the drug works.

Precautions 

If you are allergic to oxycodone or other benzodiazepines which include lorazepam, diazepam or any other allergies then make sure you inform your doctor immediately. If you also have any medical history of breathing problems, kidney disease, or liver disease then inform your doctor immediately. 

This medication may cause drowsiness, so when you take this medication with some other medications that can cause drowsiness then the side effects may be increased.
