rapramil also known as ramipril is an antihypertensive medication which is used to reduce high blood pressure. It is under the class of Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. rapramil is also used to treat congestive heart failure, it has also been proven to work perfectly to improve survival after a heart attack

Side effects of rapramil

Almost all medicines have side effects and just like any other medicines, rapramil can also cause side effects in people, but in several causes a lot of people have no side effects at all. As your body tends to get used to rapramil, side effects usually do not occur much.  

Common side effects

Generally the most common side effects of rapramil happens in just 1 in 100 people. 

  1. Tickly, dry cough that persists and does not get better.

When rapramil is being used or taken for a very long period of time this can sometimes cause kidneys not to function well as they should. Nevertheless your doctor will definitely know the right dose that would benefit you. Test will be conducted by your doctor, and they will know how your kidneys are working with a regular blood test

Ramipril is under the class of ACE known as angiotensin converting enzyme. Angiotensin converting enzyme class also has some drugs under it which includes ; enalapril, Lisinopril, trandolapril, fosinopril, captopril. So do not take rapramil if you are allergic to any other of the class of angiotensin converting enzyme. 

This medication should not be taken within 36 hours before or after taking any other medicine that actually contains sacubitril which includes ; Entresto. Research has shown that if you are actually a diabetes patient and you’re taking rapramil, do not use any other medications that contains aliskiren ( Tekamlo, Tekturna ) 

Aliskiren and rapramil may need to be avoided if you have kidney disease. However the best thing you can do is to make sure you always talk to your doctor before you take any other medications with rapramil. 

If you are pregnant or if you are about to become pregnant make sure you stop taking this medication. In other words you may inform your doctor right away about it. Research has shown that this medication may cause injury or death to the unborn baby if this rapramil is actually being taken during your second and third trimester. 

It has also been proven that this medication should not be used by a nursing mother as this drug can be passed into the breast milk. This medication can actually be taken with or without food, when you want to swallow this tablet it has to be swallowed whole. If you like, you may open the capsule and sprinkle it into a half-cup or water, or applesauce to make swallowing easier. It should be swallowed without chewing. 

Storage 

Rapramil can be stored up for at least  24 hours at room temperature, or it should be stored up to 48 hours in the refrigerator. If you are taking rapramil and you actually have an ongoing diarrhea or vomiting, or if you are sweating more than usual, then make sure you inform your doctor about it because you can actually easily become hydrated while taking ramipril. And this may lead to very low blood pressure. 

Blood tests have to be conducted to check for your potassium levels, you have to make sure your blood pressure is being checked often. 

Always take plenty of water while taking this medication.  If you are about to go for a surgery make sure you inform the surgeon ahead of time that you are taking this medication. It should be stored at a room temperature, it should be kept away from heat, moisture, and light. Always make sure it is well kept and close the bottle tightly.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose of rapramil, make sure you take it as soon as you remember. However, skip every missed dose if it is time for your next scheduled dose.  Do not take multiple doses just because you missed your previous dose. Can you drink alcohol with this medication?

Can this medication cause weight gain?

This medication is known as an ACE inhibitor and it works by relaxing the blood vessels so that blood can actually flow in the body more easily. However hydrochlorothiazide increases the amount of urine and by removing extra salt and water from your body this action reduces blood pressure.
